Heritage

The principles and heuristics described here at Grow & Develop owe much to the pioneers of humanistic, existential, and constructivist psychology. There is a direct lineage to forebears such as Gordon Allport, George A. Kelly, Abraham H. Maslow, Charlotte Bühler, Carl Rogers, Rollo May, Viktor Frankl, Karen Horney, James F. T. Bugental, Gardner Murphy, Ludwig von Bertalanffy and many other esteemed thinkers and champions of the human spirit.

These thinkers and others, such as Kurt Lewin, Sydney Jourard, Clark Moustakas, Willis Harman, Joseph Rychlak, Henry Murray, Frank Severin, Teilhard de Chardin, and Rene DuBos, provide the intellectual underpinnings for what you find here. Their thinking echoes through the decades, continuing to inform and inspire.

While such a pantheon represents diversity in both disciplines and perspectives, all these leading lights shared a common belief in the potentialities of each person individually, and humanity generally, to face adversity and to grow and develop.
